Singapore Food Festival

A Carnival Where Tradition Meets Culinary Innovation

2025/07/03 - 2025/07/06

Every July, Singapore transforms into a gourmet paradise with the Singapore Food Festival (SFF). For a full month, the city comes alive with everything from beloved hawker fare to Michelin-starred creations and cutting-edge fusion cuisine. From classics like Hainanese chicken rice and chilli crab to inventive new flavors and futuristic bites, SFF is a feast for all five senses and a true celebration of Singapore’s multicultural food heritage.

Stroll through the Bayfront Festival Village and you’ll be greeted by the smoky aroma of charcoal-grilled satay, the bubbling of laksa in woks, and the sweet scent of pandan and coconut from dessert stalls. Lanterns and banners flutter overhead, live music and chef demonstrations add to the lively atmosphere, and every bite tells a story of Singapore’s rich, diverse culinary tapestry.

Main Attractions

Bayfront Festival Village

The heart of the festival is the massive Bayfront Festival Village. Over 100 brands gather in themed areas like SG Food Walk, Sweets Alley, Durian Park, and nostalgic Mama Shops. From old-school hawker favorites to the latest fusion trends, local snacks, craft beers, and soy wine, there’s something for everyone. Workshops, chef demos, and pop-up bars are also festival highlights.

Signature Events & Immersive Experiences

At CHIJMES Hall, “The Long Table” pairs gourmet courses with ballet. “Future Food” at Marquee Singapore features sustainable ingredients and experimental cocktails. “Food Is Art” at Marina Bay Sands is a multisensory journey with chocolate sculptures, plant music, and interactive art installations.

Join hands-on classes with top chefs, market tours, cocktail workshops, and heritage cooking sessions. Try your hand at making min jiang kueh (peanut pancake) at Lau Pa Sat or enjoy a secret supper with mystery menus—discovery and participation are at the heart of SFF.

Cultural and Historical Background

The Singapore Food Festival (SFF) was launched in 1994 by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to showcase Singapore’s unique food culture and promote it as a tourism asset. At the time, rapid economic growth and urbanization meant that traditional local dishes and hawker culture were at risk of being overlooked by younger generations and foreign visitors. SFF was created to bring together Singapore’s culinary diversity—Chinese, Malay, Indian, Peranakan, Eurasian—under one festival, allowing everyone to experience everything from street food to fine dining, tradition to innovation.

Early editions of SFF featured hawker center food tours, cooking competitions, and chef demonstrations, becoming a popular platform for both locals and tourists. In the 2000s, the festival expanded to include Michelin-starred restaurants, international guest chefs, and events blending food with art and technology. In 2020, Singapore’s hawker culture was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and SFF has since grown into a national festival symbolizing the coexistence of tradition and innovation, with diverse programming and global reach.

SFF is more than a gourmet event—it is a “social bridge” that connects people across generations, ethnicities, and neighborhoods through food. It celebrates family gatherings, young chefs’ creativity, the preservation and evolution of food culture, and the unique “Singaporean-ness” that captivates food lovers from around the world.
