Montreal Fireworks Festival (L’International des Feux Loto-Québec)
A Symphony of Light and Sound Over the St. Lawrence River
2026/06/24 - 2026/07/29
Every summer, Montreal’s night sky is transformed by the Montreal Fireworks Festival (L’International des Feux Loto-Québec), the world’s largest and most prestigious fireworks competition. From late June to the end of July, more than three million people gather for this spectacular event. Whether you’re a fireworks enthusiast, a romantic couple, or a family, you’ll be swept up in Montreal’s vibrant energy and magic on these unforgettable nights.
The main venue is La Ronde amusement park on Île Sainte-Hélène. Fireworks are launched over Dolphin Lake and the St. Lawrence River and can be enjoyed from across the city. The 30-minute pyromusical shows-where every firework is perfectly synchronized to music-create a mesmerizing spectacle, with reflections dancing on the water and a sense of unity enveloping both locals and visitors. It’s the ultimate summer tradition in Montreal.
Main Attractions
World-Class Fireworks Competition & Pyromusicals
At the heart of the festival is the international fireworks competition. Each year, top teams from 8–9 countries compete for the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Jupiter awards. Each team presents a 30-minute show, launching thousands of fireworks choreographed to an original soundtrack. Themes range from movie scores to national traditions, and every show features around 6,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky.
Fireworks are held twice a week. While the best seats are the reserved grandstands at La Ronde, you can enjoy the show for free from many city spots: the Clock Tower Beach in the Old Port, rooftop terraces in Old Montreal, Mount Royal, and the Jacques Cartier Bridge-which is closed to traffic on fireworks nights and turns into a pedestrian viewing deck.
Festival Atmosphere: Summer Nights and Sounds
La Ronde offers amusement rides and live concerts, adding to the festive vibe. The sweet smell of cotton candy, popcorn, and grilled food mixes with the river breeze. As dusk falls, city lights dim and the crowd waits in anticipation for the first burst. The music is broadcast on local radio, so you can enjoy the full pyromusical experience wherever you watch.
Cultural and Historical Background
The Montreal Fireworks Festival began in 1985 as a celebration of pyrotechnic artistry. Sponsored by Loto-Québec and hosted at La Ronde, it quickly became the global stage for the world’s top pyrotechnicians. Over the decades, it has become a source of pride and a summer tradition for Montrealers, recognized as the pinnacle of pyromusical competitions worldwide.
For the people of Montreal, the festival is a symbol of summer, community, and creativity. It brings together people from all walks of life to share in the wonder of light and sound, and it’s a major draw for tourism. It’s one of the reasons Montreal is known as a city of festivals and innovation.

“I’ve seen fireworks shows all over the world, but the storytelling and energy in Montreal-especially with the music and the crowd-are on another level. I even made friends with a local family who shared their favorite festival food and insider tips.”
